Becoming Registered

Obtaining Registration

To practise cadastral surveying in Victoria, you must be registered as a licensed surveyor under the Surveying Act 2004.  To become registered, you must:

  • Successfully complete a university degree in surveying or geomatics or an equivalent qualification as approved by the Board;
  1. In accordance with s.62(a) of the Surveying Act 2004, the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria has approved the following courses of study, which provide qualifications for registration as a Licensed Surveyor:

    Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying) - RMIT University

    Bachelor of Applied Science (Geomatics)*

    Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering - University of Melbourne

    Bachelor of Environments + Master of Engineering (Geomatics) - University of Melbourne

    Bachelor of Science + Master of Engineering (Geomatics) - University of Melbourne

     

    * Bachelor of Applied Science (Geomatics) - The candidate must complete all of the following courses during their degree or after subsequent studies at RMIT University:

    Cadastral Surveying 1

    Cadastral Surveying 2

    Land Development

    Engineering Surveying 1

    Surveying 4

     

    The Head of Discipline or the Program Leader of Geospatial Science RMIT University must endorse the completion of the prescribed studies before the candidate can commence a Professional Training Agreement.

  2. Obtain practical training in cadastral surveying following graduation under the supervision of a licensed surveyor, and
  • Pass examinations in cadastral surveying set by the Board.
